September 13 & 14, 2002 Cleveland, Texas
UPDATE: BBQ Results for September 13th & 14th

Friday the 13th, what a beautiful hot summer day. Did I say it was in the middle of September? Oh that's right however we are in Houston Texas! It's supposed to be almost a 100 degrees in September. Cleveland, Texas is only 50 miles to the north and with it being about 2 degrees cooler, why not set up camp in the middle of the day?  We did! Thanks to our neighbor David Slusher, he saved us a great spot out in the back 40.

In the cool of the evening was a welcome time for all. After being in the heat all day, now we all could settle down and do some cooking, drinking, visiting, and you know just having some fun. Mom and Albert came along and as usual brought more food and drink. Thanks! Mr. & Mrs. Geist came to visit and brought up Kim  and the girls. The girls were very entertaining. Ron, Darrell, Vince, Linn & Don set up on a mission to try some new cooking processes. You know, we must experiment. First quarter moon!

Up and early to rise, back on the pit,  to start the day

With hopes of doing well, we are now on our way.

Fire up the pit and turn up the heat

Now's the time to put on the meat

Turn-in's at 11, 12, 1, & 2

We'll be ready, all the cookin's just about through

Later today will tell the truth

Of whose got the best BBQ Booth

After all the cookin' was said and done

We served out some food and had some fun

Thank you friends for sharing your time

May your stomachs be full and your thoughts be kind

Until we meet again for food, fun, and a ball

We'll hopefully see you soon, God bless you all

Moonlite Cooker's

Our friends showed up for support and we all found a seat at the awards presentation to find out how we fared. It goes something like this. Our beans didn't make the table, our ribs didn't make the table, and we are saving our brisket to make leather shoe soles. What a disappointing turn in. But guess what, our CHICKEN was 2nd place along with a trophy and $$$$$. Hooray! Hooray!

Thank you Jill for running a real smooth and professional judging job. Hopefully The Moonlite Cooker's will do a better turn-in on our next endeavor.

VFW Post 1839 Cleveland did a great job in making us feel right at home with good will, electricity and water. The young man driving around on the 4 wheeler was great with the ice and trash pick up. Brother LeBlanc, our host, also made us feel like part of the family.

For those of you who did not make the cook, perhaps you can come out the next time. Check out our website for dates & times of coming events.
