Sour Lake Texas

April 11th & 12th, 2003

UPDATE: BBQ Results for April 11th & 12th

This was our second time to travel to Sour Lake, Texas. The folks from the town were very hospitable, there was power and fresh water available, and like last year our host Ronnie Latil was absolutely the best!

Darrell Quiroz, Ron & Kim Alford with the girls made the trip in the early afternoon and set up camp, a really nice spot under an old oak tree that had to be about 100 years old. The man upstairs provided us with wonderful weather, just the right amount for this cook-off. Don and Linn came up that evening. Darrell & Ron had everything under control so we started right in with our preparations. Great job guys! Mama & Albert also made the trip, it was good to see them. After fighting the morning fog, Vince Lepka arrived and started the beans.

Our neighbors Tim & Vera Patterson (Just 4 Fun Cookers) are from Humble, Texas. Real nice folks! We had a chance to visit with Charlie & Joy Lancaster, along with their little angel Dixie. Dixie didn't do any cooking, just supervising and keeping the neighbors at bay.

It's been a year now since we've been to the Relay For Life BBQ Cook-Off and on the road to better BBQ, so we felt for sure that now we would be better BBQ competitors. So how'd we do? All of our food was very, very, good. In my humble opinion, the best so far. We scored 10th in Brisket.

Jill Jones (IBCA, Texas Gulf Coast BBQ Cookers Association) was our head judge, and as always did a superb job. Everything went real smooth and timely. Thanks Jill for the continued hard work and support!. It's very much appreciated.
