Children's Kidney Foundation Cook-Off

April 25th & 26th, 2003

UPDATE: BBQ Results for April 25th & 26th

That's what I'm talking about!

Who would have known a year ago we would have been blessed with such a wonderful weekend for BBQ. Mike Flores, Mike Matula, and their crew really put on a show. As our host, they made us welcome and feel right at home. A real fund raiser for the Children's Kidney Foundation. Our neighbors were Harlan & Harlan, good cooks who played great music. With a cool breeze at night and a beautiful sunny day, it was the right combination for BBQ and fun in the Old Town Spring, Texas.

Ron, Don, & Darrell made the set up. Got it down to a science now. Once on site, it takes about 30 minutes and we're up and going with "fire in the pit"! Then it's time to relax and visit with old friends and neighbors.

Mama made the best lemon cream filled cake I've ever tasted, thanks Mom!  Linn was on hand to help out, good job sweetie. It was nice to see Cindee, us Army Brats got to  stick together. We know about "Birds of a Feather". Kim and the girls showed up for support and brought Bugga (Ron's Mom), just in from Ohio. For you guys and gals that didn't make this cook, you missed a good one. Check out our schedule for the next up-coming events.

This was a 6 event cook which included; dessert, cook's open, chili, chicken, pork spare ribs, and brisket, with one hour turn-in times between each item. No complaints, just fun in the sun. We did just fine. Soooooo, the question, how'd we do this time? It goes something like this, 3rd place in Cook's Choice ( Big Daddy's Shrimp Etoufee), 1st place Chicken, 4th place Pork Spare Ribs, and made the final table in Brisket! 3rd place overall!

Jill Blankenship (IBCA, Texas Gulf Coast BBQ Cookers Association) was our head judge. She had some help from her main man Bobby Blankenship along with  Helen & Ronnie Halbison. Real pro's here, they make one KB team.  Everything went real smooth and timely. Thanks guys for the continued hard work and support!.
